Project: Refurbishment, alterations and extensions to non listed tradditional property.
Location: Dedham, Colchester, Essex.
Refurbishment, alterations and extensions to a non-listed traditional property.
The project brief was to sensitively extend a domestic property to create a new open plan family space, while respecting the existing character of the building, site, and surrounds.
The attractive 4 bedroom house was purchased with a dated interior and having been built without a large family room taking advantage of the site’s fantastic views over the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Opening up the existing space, with a visually unobtrusive glazed link conveying the existing space to the new, while integrating a change of levels form old to new, allowed for a large kitchen, dining and living space that resolved the existing dwellings shortcomings.
At first floor an extra bedroom, two ensuites and a hot tub on the first-floor master bedroom balcony completed the transformation.
The end result is a property that has been extended to accommodate the needs of a modern home, whilst having some fun and retaining the existing qualities of the original house.
